General accident cases and injuries at work

Workplace incidents that can lead to injuries and possible claims for compensation

Accidents may also happen through seemingly innocuous circumstances involving things such as lighting, cleaning and the condition of floors and traffic routes in the workplace. Even the layout of a workstation could potentially cause an accident to an employee.

Of relevance are the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992. These apply to all workplaces except ships, constructions sites and mining operations.

Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992

In the main these provisions amongst others provide that any workplace equipment and systems must be maintained in a good state of repair and efficient working order. Ventilation must be adequate and lighting suitable. All furniture, fittings, floors, walls and ceilings should be kept clean and waste should not be allowed to accumulate. Measures should also be taken to ensure that employees are not injured by falling objects.

Of particular importance is the fact that all floors and traffic routes should be suitable for use. In that there should not be any holes, slopes, unevenness or slippery surface that could expose an employee to a risk of injury. The floors and traffic routes should also be free of obstructions or items that may cause an employee to slip, trip or fall.

If you have had an accident and do not feel that these Regulations were compiled with or that you had received inadequate training then please contact us for a chat today.
