Bus crash National Express
[5th January 2007]
A double decker coach owned by National Express has
been involved in a serious accident just outside Heathrow Airport.
The vehicle overturned and the bus driver was
questioned by the police before being later released.
The crash has raised concerns regarding the safety
of the double decker coaches following a multiple fatality collision in France
four years ago where 28 people died. France now have stringent rules to control
the use of similar vehicles in the wake of that incident.

All European vehicles built during the last few
years have been modified to include roll bars and support structures.
However the vehicle involved in the recent crash was not fitted with similar
safety equipment. It did however meet the required UK safety standard.
A bus driver suffering
injury in an accident at work
may be able to claim compensation if he or she can show that the accident
was not as a result of their negligence.
Further updates on this story will be published
in due course.
